Yum: 10 Must-Have Items from Trader Joe’s

Ah, Trader Joe’s. I remember taking my measly paycheck from tutoring in college and splurging on fresh tomato and mozzarella. Even then I tried to eat fresh and above my means. Fast forward to today. There is definitely something to be said about being an adult and not cringing cringing less at grocery bills. That being said, I’m pretty mindful of what foods will give me a “bang for my buck.”

Here are my absolute must-have’s (plus, a couple things to ditch)-

1. Red Thai Curry, $2.99

After visiting Asia, I became more open to trying different foods. Trader Joe’s has several other sauces to help introduce you to different types of cuisine. However, it can be pretty potent if you’re not used to these flavors. Try using coconut milk for a delicious broth or sauce. (Ditch: The pre-marinated curry chicken tenders.)

2. Dark chocolate edamame, $3.49

Let’s be honest, this could be chocolate covered anything. They have so many delicious options. Growing up, we had the chocolate covered sunflower seeds in the house. However, I did want to point these out. These are great for keeping in the freezer for a quick handful on the way out of the house.

3. Chocolate Covered Powerberries, $3.49

Okay, okay…. while we are at it, here’s another chocolate covered must-have. These are boyfriend approved. Not just boyfriend approved, he willingly took them to work to snack on them. They’re another delicious food to grab when you’re on the go for a sweet pick-me-up.

4. Ravioli Pasta, $2.99

These are perfect for a quick dinner or lunch. They’re filling and the perfect amount for the two of us. Plus, they’re super fast! Can’t beat that.

5. Soup, $2.29

Whether you snag broth or something a bit creamier, these are the perfect staple to have in your cabinet. If you’re grabbing chicken broth, be sure to throw some thai shrimp gyozas into your cart too. They’re a filling, guilt-free combination.

6. Quinoa Duo, $3.99

Looking for another quick addition to dinner? Trader Joe’s has amazing frozen vegetables that will enhance any dinner. Even though I’ve gotten my fair share of many kinds of vegetables, this bag always makes it’s way into my cart. I’ll usually saute spinach with garlic and sprinkle some parmesan cheese on top for a quick dinner.

7. Frozen mangos, $2.99

Trader Joe’s isn’t the best place for frozen fruit if you’re looking for a good deal. However, these are always too good to pass up. These will definitely be making their way into our smoothies! (Ditch: Other frozen fruit if you’re looking to buy in bulk. You’ll get a better deal at Costco.)

8. Coconut oil, $5.99

Speaking of smoothies… Coconut oil hosts plenty of health benefits. Just add a tablespoon to your next smoothie. You can also try oil pulling. There is also a coconut oil spray, but be careful as it clogs easily.

9. Peach Salsa, $2.29

Cowboy caviar, corn and chile salsa, and salsa verde. They’re all delicious and worth a buy. However, there is just something so perfect about a sweet, fruity salsa on a hot, relaxing day.

10. Noodles/ Pasta Sauce, $1.99

I love the unique blend of noodles you can get, from Garlic Basil Linguine to Lemon pappardelle. Top it off with a variety of sauces, from Tomato Basil to a creamy Vodka sauce. Throw in some frozen chicken topped with some fresh basil. Or, swap out carbs and calories with spaghetti squash instead.
