Like many, I’ve spent significantly more time at home this past year. And while my dog Bella is savoring this “new normal,” I needed to find ways to cope. Getting make-up subscriptions and creating videos was an outlet to be creative. Ironically, I’d get dolled up only to sit, and eat cheese and crackers at home watching Dateline. Because where were we going in 2020? But, in the process, I’ve also happened to find new products that are among my favorites.
Here are my favorite 10 finds this year:
- First Aid Beauty, Hello FAB Pores Be Gone Matte Primer ($22). I got this in my first IPSY bag. I’ve tried a few new primers this year, and this reigns amongst the top. It creates a thin layer over the skin, without being too overpowering that helps make-up last longer, and reduce the appearance of pores.
- Lime Crime, Dirty Blonde Bushy Brow Pen ($20). I’m blonde. Shocking, I know. But here’s the thing: having blonde eyebrows can be troublesome. With a winged tip, this product is easy to apply and fill in your eyebrows.
- Catrice, Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer($6). Introduced to me by beauty blogger Bailey Sarian, this product goes on lightly, but covers extremely well considering it’s not as heavy like other products I’ve tried. And let’s face it, the price tag takes the cake.
- Iconic London, Day to Slay Palette ($58). A UK based company, Iconic London is trickling into the likes of Sephora and Ulta. This particular eye shadow palette is true perfection. Every color pops — creating a gorgeous, vibrant shine. Plus, they blend oh-so-easily, making them my absolutely favorite palette.
- Rockins, Big Fat Liner ($25.99). I’ve actually found a few eyeliners I’ve liked this year, and am surprised it came down to this one. True to its name, this one is extremely thick and creates a dramatic line. A fact that actually had me hesitant to use it. But, for a striking look, it shows up well and is easy to control.
- Stila, Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24). Although I used the color Twig, there are a number of colors that are just as beautiful from this set. I feel like I’m back in the 90’s learning how to do make-up again. Except, this is a quality product, flattering color, and I know not to put it on my entire eye.
- Nars Lipstick, Lovin Lips ($26). I’m not a big lipstick wearer, and never will be. So the mini bundle from Ulta with Lovin Lips and Rosecliff is perfect. Both shades are somewhat neutral tones and are long-lasting, perfect for someone who forgets to re-apply. You know, ever again.
- Bobbi Brown, Smokey Eye Mascara ($32). It’s hard to find a product that will have me waver from Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, but alas, here is one. This mascara goes on easily, does not clump, and builds nicely. I don’t know if it will be my No. 1, but it sits alongside Too Faced as one of the best mascaras I’ve tried.
- Fenty Beauty, Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter ($36). Rihanna’s brand does not lack pigmentation, regardless of what color or product you use to help you shine bright like a diamond. I personally love the golden tones from the set Mo’ Hunny and Afternoon Snack.
- Laura Mercier, Translucent Pressed Setting Powder ($39). There are a few types of products I’ve skipped prior to this year. Namely, blush and finishing powder. I just figured they were excessive and unnecessary. But, this product earns its rank as No. 1 setting powder amongst consumers for a reason. It really does create a beautiful finish. Though, I opted for the pressed version because if you recall, I’m clumsy.
Of course, there were a few products that just missed the list. I also discovered Estee Lauder double wear stay-in-place foundation, Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r amplifying eye primer, and the Harry Potter brush set.
