Beautified: IPSY Subscription Review

I work off Michigan Avenue, which, pre-COVID-19, was always a hub of activity. So I was first introduced to IPSY by haphazardly stumbling across a pop-up event on my commute. I didn’t think much of it until a post popped up on my feed. Ironically, the post was about the subscription service Birchbox. I reviewed the comments and kept seeing praise for IPSY.

So I casually did some research. Overall, the starting prices are $12 and $10 respectively (which is the grooming box for Birchbox.) IPSY also offers the Glam Bag Plus ($25 per month) and Glam Bag Ultimate ($50). These bags will offer larger 5 full-size products, and 8 full-size products and 4 deluxe-size samples. The main difference, it seems, is the type of products you can expect. Most reviews suggest that Birchbox features beauty and grooming, while IPSY leans more towards make-up. Ultimately, it came down to the positive comments in the thread that led me to IPSY.

Now, there are other options too, like Allure ($15 a month), BoxyCharm ($25 a month), and FabFitFun ($49.99 for a seasonal subscription). I’ll get to that in another post since I’ll be trying BoxyCharm as well.

It’s only my first month, but I could see myself purchasing a few of the items I received in my bag. Here are all the items I received:

  • Moda Brush, angle shader
  • Benefit Cosmetics, 24-Hour brow setter clear brow gel
  • Avette Daily Fresh Sheet Mask Duo
  • Real Chemistry Environmental Rescue Day Cream
  • First Aid Beauty, Hello FAB Pores Be Gone Matte Primer

Overall, I’m really happy with the items. I could see myself incorporating the day cream, primer and brow gel in my daily routine. I also think the quality of the face masks are fantastic. But, I only use face masks every other week or so at the very most. You’ll also notice in the video, I mention that IPSY does flash sales and offers other add-on products. These can range anywhere from $5 to roughly $50. I have bought a handful so far, and have mixed reviews.

But, I’m excited to see how this changes over time. Stay tuned to see what I get in July!
